Anyone who has been paying attention to the clashes between free speech advocates and safe speech advocates will already know of what I speak. I feel no need to go into detail regarding something that has been documented to death. I find the whole affair to be brimming with self-righteousness–from both sides! And while I have no desire to add to it, here I go anyway: O foolish people, what have you wrought for yourselves? Who knew that the end of liberalism would be so tangled up with the story of video games? We live in an outrageous age of a preposterous people. There are those who are outraged, and there are those who are outraged regarding those who are outraged so foolishly. And so the cycle of anger continues.
Lazy idealists on the one hand and lazy hedonists on the other are not going to get anything done.
Perhaps it is not the end of liberalism, so much as a steadily ringing revelation of liberalism’s inherent paradoxes. Isn’t the answer obvious? Speech policing leads to the stifling of freedom. Freedom leads to the suffering of the weak. There is no balance to be found in the angry, irrational self-affirming rhetoric of our times. Our culture will see no salvation from this issue and people will suffer from this dilemma until the Lord comes back.
Behind all of this is an industry that simply wants to profit off of the captivation of the hearts of men. Its overseers will exploit the cult and the myth and the hype and the hope as long as they can.
It is necessary that Christians emerge to create worlds that truly edify those who enter into them, instead of just leading hungry cultists on with endless empty promises all the way down the tower of turtles.
